Project Overview:

Em Dub Design was contracted by Denver Parks and Recreation to develop a new theme and design for Northeast Denver’s Montbello Central Park playground. The previous playground was more than 20 years old with outdated equipment and not up to current accessibility standards.

Em Dub’s design process led the project from concept through final construction documents, including initial outreach that involved neighborhood surveys and questionnaires, a public meeting, and a design charette. Em Dub also assisted the city with construction oversight and management, coordinating three vendors (site work contractor, playground equipment representative, and local artist) through to completion.

The new accessible playground design is double the original size and offers activities and experiences for a wide range of ages, abilities, and families. Features include an embankment slide, fresh new play equipment, sound elements with chimes and drums for social interaction, a boulder hillside, as well as new picnic tables, grills, and benches. A highlight of the playground is a unique mural designed by local artist, Mario Miguel Echevarria, that was brought to life by community volunteers of all ages through a fun-filled volunteer day.
