Project Overview:

Apex Park and Recreation District, in northeastern Jefferson County, hired Em Dub Design to provide project management services for Phase III of its Community Heroes Park project. Goals of this phase were to construct 8 additional pickle ball courts and install a large demonstration xeric garden. Em Dub Design was hired to assist with bidding document assembly and bidding for the courts and garden, and then managing the construction of each.

The project involved several unique factors and challenges which Em Dub Design carefully navigated and resolved along the way. Budget presented the primary challenge since the project was initially budgeted for and funded during Phase I in 2013 and was not updated to reflect 2017 construction prices and scarcity of qualified contractors. Em Dub Design was able to leverage volunteers and mentored leadership staff, among other innovative approaches, to bring the project to completion. Another notable challenge was the lack of available qualified sport court builders in Colorado as the previous contractor was not available for the project during the required timeframe. Em Dub Design re-issued the bid, expanding the search to the entire mountain states region, and found a suitable builder for the work. The pickle ball courts were completed in September 2016, and the demonstration garden in September 2017.
