Project Overview:
The City of Englewood approached Em Dub Design to consult with the City to consider options for beautifying medians on South Broadway.
The City was interested in something colorful and vivid, and provided an example involving highly intricate designs with patterned rocks and materials. This particular concept translated into a maintenance intensive approach which the City did not want to pursue. Em Dub Design explored alternatives that would still create a level of color and patterns to meet the City’s desired goals, that also complied with the budget and reasonable maintenance standards. A limited budget
dictated a focus on cosmetic changes and updates to the landscape material versus updating the physical medians themselves.
Em Dub Design explored various options on behalf of the City. Synthetic turf presented an interesting way to create color and texture, however it was deemed cost-prohibitive and unsustainable. Em Dub Design recommended using street bond point due to its ability to withstand the harsh traffic conditions on Broadway and from Colorado weather. Our team also recommended updated plant species selected specifically to be extremely hardy and salt tolerant.
Em Dub Design and Propel Graphics developed detailed 3D graphics to help garner city and public support. Construction documents were developed and the City then bid the project. The median updates were completed in 2025 to rave reviews. The City was so thrilled with the results, they have retained Em Dub Design to complete the next five blocks of medians in 2026-2027.
