Project Overview:

Denver Parks and Recreation engaged Em Dub Design to update the existing basketball courts in 7 different parks. The project began by conducting detailed surveys and site visits with the project
manager to review opportunities and constraints with the existing courts, as well as to determine viable alternative site options.

Most of the existing courts were constructed of old asphalt and required updating to meet current standards. Because each court was a different size, the team was unable to apply Denver’s standards, and instead designed modifications to fit each site’s needs.

The design process also involved addressing ADA accessibility requirements via sidewalks to the courts, as well as community outreach with graphics and surveys.

As a bond-funded project, funding was locked in years before project start. By the time the project began, the allocated budgets did not match current construction industry costs and Em Dub Design led the City through a value engineering process to meet budget constraints. The City bid the project and presently have an apparent low bid that falls within the revised budget and contingency. The City is currently in contracting with the contractor and Em Dub Design will
assist with construction period services in 2026.
